چکیده

Infections of the aorta, eventually associated with aneurysm development, are rare (0.5-2.6%) with higher rates observed in Eastern countries (13%) 1-6. Only small series are available from the literature, so it is very difficult to identify risk factors for this disease; most patients are aged, with generalized sepsis and serious comorbidities often associated with a depressed immune response. Hospital mortality rates are high (16-44%) in spite of improvements in imaging, surgical techniques and available antimicrobial therapy; most of deaths are observed in patients with infections by Salmonella or Staphylococcus Aureus, in ruptured aneurysms and when the suprarenal aorta is affected 1. This retrospective, single-center study reports early and late results of treatment in 12 patients observed in the last 20 years.

The Arterial Pattern of Terminal Branch of the Abdominal Aorta in the Male Persian Squirrel (Sciurus Anomalus)

Introduction: The Persian squirrel (Sciurus anomalus) is considered the only well-known species of the family Sciuridae in the Middle East. Since some people keep this squirrel as a domestic pet, their attendance at veterinary clinics is increasing. So far, no study has been conducted on the arterial supply of the pelvic cavity and limb in the squirrel. Hence, this research was performed to fil...

Systemic atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability in patients with Coronary Artery Disease with a single Whole Body [FDG]PET-CT scan

Objective(s): Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbimortality with over half cardiovascular events occurring in the asymptomatic population by traditional risk stratification. This preliminary study aimed to evaluate systemic plaque vulnerability in patients with prior Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) with a single Whole Body [FDG] PET-CT scan in terms of plaq...

Acquired Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Coarctation: Treatment with Percutaneous Self Expandable Stent

Abdominal aortic coarctation is an extremely rare vascular pathology. Its etiology can be congenital or acquired. Here we present a case of acquired infrarenal abdominal coarctation in a 66-year-old woman who complained of low back and legs pain. She had no signs of resting lower limb ischemia, with diminished distal pulses and normal blood pressure in upper and lower extremities. Magnetic reso...

SONOGRAPHIC EVALUATION OF AORTOILIAC ATHEROSCLEROSIS IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PATIENTS OLDER THAN 45 YEARS: A CASE-CONTROL STUDY

Background & Aims: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) encounter many complications and morbidities. One of these major complications is accelerated atherosclerosis which is believed to be multifactorial in CKD and dialysis patients. Ultrasonographic evaluation of arteries has been proposed as an accurate and non-invasive method in assessing the process of atherosclerosis. Atheroscleroti...

A rare case of multiple aneurysms in a young patient.

Multiple aneurysms are clinically common in population aged over sixty and are caused mainly by atherosclerosis. When occurring in young population other etiologies such as trauma, infections, Bechet's disease, Marfan syndrome, neurofibromatosis or inflammatory disease are responsible for the development of arterial aneurysms. A rare case of multiple aneurysms in a 40-year-old man, affecting th...

Study of Pulsatile Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Through Abdominal Aorta and Renal Arteries Incorporating Fluid- Structure Interaction

Background: The interaction between the blood and the vessel wall is of great clinical interest in studying cardiovascular diseases, the major causes of death in developed countries. Objective: To understand the effects of incorporating fluid-structure interaction into the simulation of blood flow through an anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries reconstructed from CT...
